Not anymore! Prior to the 9.0 release, Shepherd's Staff required a drive letter location to access the database. For instance, when Shepherd's Staff is first installed and you are creating your data from scratch, it defaults to a database location of C:\ShepherdsStaff.
If multiple computers on the same network were sharing one database for Shepherd's Staff, the database might be at that location on one of the computers, and on the other computers, you would have needed to map a network drive to create a drive letter for those computers to point to.
As of the 9.0 release of Shepherd's Staff, you can still use a mapped drive, but you can now also use a UNC (Universal Naming Convention) path as the location for the database.
As an example of the format for this, to access a database file called "staff.mdb" in the C:\ShepherdsStaff folder on a computer called "OfficeDesktop", would be:
\\OfficeDesktop\ShepherdsStaff\staff.mdb.
