Locations Tab

» INI File—The location of the program’s initialization file which contains configuration information. This file is used by Windows to save information about your preferences and operating environment. The INI File should not be modified without the supervision of a Software Support Representative.

» Current Database—The location of the current database in which you are working.

» Application Path—The location of the application. The Shepherd’s Staff application must be installed on each computer that needs access to the application.

» Work Database—The location of the temporary work database that is used by the program.

» Documents—The default location where documents are created and stored by the program.

» Alternate Spreadsheet Program—There are several reports and functions within Shepherd’s Staff that interface with MS Excel. If the church uses MS Works, Lotus 1-2-3, Quattro Pro, etc., click on the icon to load the correct spreadsheet executable. The icon clears the field.

  • How do I change the location of the database? We lost connection to our networked database and I think the location shown for the Current Database for one of my staff's computers is incorrect. She can log into Shepherds Staff on other computers on the network, but not on hers. I think the database location is incorrect, because when she tries to select a different database, it says the current folder is C:\, which is incorrect.

  • Hi Pat,
By default, SS looks for it's database on "C:\" which is the primary hard drive on the computer. But it should always check the last place it was saved first (in your case the network drive). If for some reason Shepherd's Staff can't get to the database, it usually displays a warning immediately when you open Shepherd's Staff saying it cannot find the database and will ask to manually select the correct database.

If that warning does not show, you can use the Select a Church utility by clicking "Switch" on the login window or by going to Utilities in the main menu and click "Select a Church Databse..." , both options will open a new window. You will need to click "Select other database" in the lower right corner and navigate to location of the correct database and select it.

Step by step instructions can also be found at https://shepherdsstaff.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/221739207-Select-a-Church

Also a warning! Data corruption can occur if that computer was in the process of updating anything in Shepherd's Staff when it lost network connection. If you are getting strange errors you may need to restore a backup to remove any data corruption. Just a reminder that it is especially important to do regular backups when using a networked database.

Let us know if you have any other issue!
